the wolf pack 6"Okay, let's go!" Spirit exclaimed, and the two of them charged forward. Spirit lunged at the elk that was in front of him, that looked a bit older. He successfully grabbed a hold of the rump with his jaw before the elk could respond. But the elk didn't stay shocked for long. Even though it was definetly one of the older and sicker ones, the elk was running and kicking. It caught Spirit a good kick in the leg before running off. Spirit fell to the ground, barking wildly. His arm throbbed as he stood up, but he tried to shake off the pain for the sake of the pack. Slower than before, but still as persistent, Spirit barked and kept the elk running while Onyx steered it. As they approached the entrance to the woods, Spirit could see Spot crouching behind the thicket. Spirit put on an extra burst of speed to impress his Alpha, and successfully caught the elk a good bite in the rump. As they entered the forest, there was a burst of energy. Spot gracefully sprang out of the thicket, and succ
The Wolf Pack 5"You ready?" Spirit asked Amber, who had to run to keep up with the rest of the pack."No, not really," she admitted."That's okay. It's your first time," Spirit assured her, slowing down so Amber didn't have to tire herself out keeping up with him."Yeah. So, how long does it usually take to catch and kill an elk?""Eh, usually a while. It depends on what hunting strategy we use.""Oh, okay," Amber said. "Then it probably shouldn't take too long this time. Galena's plan sounded pretty good.""Yeah, we'll see," Spirit muttered."Why don't you like her?" Amber asked him."What?" Spirit asked, surprised by the question. "I don't dislike her. I'm just in competition with her for second in command. That's all.""Oh, okay," Amber said, all though she still didn't sound convinced."Come on, guys!" Onyx called to them from up ahead. "You're falling behind!"Just so as to not waste time, Spirit picked Amber up by her scruff and ran up to the rest of the pack. No offense to Amber, but she wasn'
The Wolf Pack 4"Oh, what you'd recommend we change?" Spot asked."Well, when we went around the Elk and attacked from the sides," Galena began, "that was a pretty good idea, but it took longer to kill the Elk.""Hmmm.""Yeah. The only problem is that if we attack from the front or the back, we are vulnerable to the Elk's hooves, which means kicking. I think I have a solution that might take a bit more time to look for an opening for, but once we use it, the Elk will be a lot easier to kill.""Sounds like a pretty good strategy," Spot mused. "What is it?""Galena took a deep breath. "Well, this might not work out, but i was thinking, while we're chasing the Elk and biting it here and there, one of us looks for higher ground where we can still run, but we're about a foot above the Elk's back. Then, when that wolf puts on extra speed, they run about two yard in front of the Elk," galena continued, "and then, just before the Elk dashes past them, they jump down onto the Elk's back, and clamp their jaw do
The Wolf Pack 3Onyx came and sat down beside him."Do you know what's for breakfast?" he asked."Uh, probably leftovers, as always," Spirit muttered, placing his head on his paws. "It's kinda gross eating the same carcass in the winter as the day before, because it's always all frozen and hard, and when it melts, it's all watery.""Meh. At least we got a good hunt last time. Remember when it was drought season, and we couldn't find anything to eat, and we almost starved?" Onyx asked, lying down next to him."Yeah, that really sucked," Spirit replied, remembering how he had started to eat bugs and and small birds, which had tasted repulsive. The two wolves' thoughts were interrupted as they rest of the pack began to yip and hurry to the entrance of the den."Spot and Amber are probably back," Spirit said, getting up and trotting over with the rest of the pack. Onyx was right on his heels."Food's here," Spot called, as he picked up the elk carcass and dragged it to the center of the den with the help
